Making a list of the best books in any year is a challenge — there are too many great ones to choose from. Nevertheless, here are some of our favorites to add to your bookshelf or reader from 2023.
- Outlive by Dr. Peter Attia: With the goal of guiding readers toward a longer and healthier life, this book serves as a manual for longevity. It offers nutritional, exercise and mental health strategies to fight age-related diseases like cancer, diabetes and dementia.
- Fayne by Ann-Marie MacDonald: Set in the late 19th century, Fayne follows Charlotte Bell’s life at her secluded estate on the English-Scottish border and explores themes including science, love and identity.
- Spare by Prince Harry: The world-famous British royal shares a behind-the-scenes look at his life, examining the trials and tribulations of royalty and his journey toward finding his own purpose.
- Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano: Author of “Dear Edward”, her latest is a touching exploration of self-discovery, love and life’s unexpected encounters, written in a way only Napolitano can.
- The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi: This 20th anniversary edition of the beloved graphic novel with a new introduction by the author examines Iran’s political landscape from Satrapi’s childhood to today.

A bonus book for you, this beautifully crafted book from the nine-time Grammy-winning producer offers his take on creativity and the work of the artist.

Matriarch To Madness. Non Fiction. By Susan Csoke, is by far the Best REAL Book. A Must Read. Happy Holidays
I liked the book Spare by Prince Harry
“The Deluge” by Stephen Markley was the best book of the year. It’s a long challenging densely packed epic novel about climate change. It’s supposed to be a novel, but scarily reads like today’s headlines. It
s not an easy read, but it richly rewards your efforts to absorb it.
3 crime novels –2 from 2 of my favorite authors– would’ve topped my list if not for “The Deluge”. Jordan Harper’s “Everybody Knows” is a pitch black noir set in Hollywood. S.A. Cosby’s “All the Sinners Bleed” is a gothic tale about a serial killer in the South & the challenges of a black man in blue trying as newcomer Police Chief trying to catch the killer. Then the prolific Michael Connelly continues to amaze us with his 7th Lincoln Lawyer book “Resurrection Walk”. It may the best of the 7 as the ever enterprising defense attorney, Mickey Haller, teams up with another Connelly legend, Harry Bosch, to free a wrongly convicted woman from prison.
Finally don’t let David Grann’s follow up to his fantastic “Killer of the Flower Moon” pass you by. “The Wager” tells the harrowing true tale of a shipwrecked Enclish crew in 1742 in all of its grueling detail.
On a final non-fiction note “Number Go Up” from Zeke Faux (apt name for this book) is a deep & entertaining dive in all things crypto.
I’m sorry. I did not read a book during this year. My life was to hectic. I do wish now that I would have been able to read Outlive, by Dr Pete Attia and Spare by Prince Harry. Thank you for your time.

I am a member in the Warren, Michigan library on Rhine Rd. The book club leader has picked some very interested books, such as, the Fire Keeper Daughter, and many other styles of writing. So good luck in the 2024 with your reading lists. I would like to read more books by Africia American authors, so if you come across one send a notification.
Your truly, Suqita J Abdullah.
I could not put down River Love by Tricia Frey. I laughed, cried, and related to it so much It is one of the Best Books I have ever read, and enjoyed. It tells the story of a Woman who finds a stray, lost Sheltie( Shetland Sheepdog) and the trials they both go through. Anyone who has ever had or known a Sheltie understands how smart, sensitive, sweet, gentle, loyal and loving they are. The setting is a magical place called Riverside, which is somewhere everyone needs at sometime in their life. Just a fantastic book !!!
